Finance team preparing month-end closing

Month-End Closing Without the Marathon

If closing eats up days of every month, the cause is usually manual consolidation. Get financial reports whenever you need them and close on screen.

For many finance teams, the last days of the month are a marathon: collect files, match balances, build the statements, and hope nothing changes while you do. The closing itself is often shorter than the preparation.

Where the time goes

Most of the delay comes from assembling numbers that should already be in one place. If the books are updated as transactions happen, there is far less to gather at the end.

Reports available any time, closing on screen

With easyFS, financial reports are available any time, and Closing is done on screen:

  • Balance Sheet to see what the company owns and owes.
  • Income Statement to see performance for the period.
  • Cash Flow to see where cash came from and where it went.

Why this shortens the cycle

Because the reports are generated from the same transactions your team already records, checking them is a review job instead of a building job. You can look at the figures mid-month and fix issues while they are small. When the period ends, Closing is a step on the screen, and finalized entries can then be protected with Lock.

An illustrative scenario

A services company closes its books on the fifth working day of every month. In practice, the first three days go into collecting files from branches and checking that no invoice is missing. Only the last two days are used for review and reporting. When something changes after the statements are produced, the whole sequence starts again.

If entries are posted as they occur, the statements can be viewed at any time. The team uses the first days of the month to review exceptions and approve the numbers. Closing is then a confirmation step, not a construction project.

A simple closing routine

  • Mid-month check: open the Balance Sheet and Income Statement and look for items that do not make sense.
  • Last days of the month: make sure sales, collections and disbursements are all posted.
  • Review the reports: Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Cash Flow should tell a consistent story.
  • Close the period on screen, then protect finalized entries with Lock.

A routine like this does not remove the need for judgment. It removes the repeated manual work, so the judgment of your finance team goes into the numbers that need it.

Less overtime, earlier insight

Owners and managers receive figures sooner, which means decisions are made on last month’s results rather than the month before. easyFS is cloud-based, so reports can be reviewed from wherever your approvers are.
